Curriculum

Key Stage 3
All pupils in years 8 and 9 follow the programme of study specified by the Department of Education for Northern Ireland. Classes are timetabled for 2 periods per week each year.

Technology & Design is an optional subject in year 10, where those choosing to study it have 3 periods per week.

Key Stage 4
Two specifications are offered at Key Stage 4:
CCEA GCSE Technology & Design following the Systems and Control route and focusing on Electronic and Microelectronic Control Systems and WJEC Eduqas GCSE Electronics.

Pupils do not have to have studied Technology & Design in year 10 to select either of our GCSE options.

Key Stage 5
Two specifications are offered at Key Stage 5: CCEA GCE Technology & Design following the Systems and Control route and focusing on Electronic and Microelectronic Control Systems and WJEC Eduqas AS/A level.

Study of either GCSE option above allows progression to the study of either Technology & Design or Electronics at A level, however pupils may select these as a new subject if they can demonstrate a strong background in Mathematics and Science and if selecting Technology & Design, a flair for Art & Design is also required

Facilities and Resources

Our progressive Technology & Design department is very well appointed with 2 interactive whiteboards, a suite of computers with the latest CAD and Circuit Design software, a 3D printer, CNC router, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, 2 fully equipped workshops, a large systems and design room and a smaller planning area.
