Sailing Success

Congratulations to Year 12 pupil Joseph Karauzum who has been selected as the only Northern Ireland sailor to take part in this summer's Laser 4.7 World Championships in Poland. Joseph will be training with the Irish Sailing Academy (ISA) as they prepare to represent Ireland at the Championships. RYA High Performance manager and former Olympic sailor Matthew McGovern said: "Joseph is the top athlete on our Northern Ireland Academy for sailing his discipline." RYANI Performance Academy head coach Chris Penney added: "The Laser is one of the most competitive fleets in Ireland and Joseph has been training hard on water and in the gym to prepare for the upcoming season. With the attitude and commitment Joseph shows toward his training and the sport, there are many great things to come in his future." Joseph said: "I'm really excited to qualify for the World Championships - and on top of that to be selected for the Irish team heading to represent Ireland in Poland, especially as the standard of competitive sailors in Ireland is so high. There will be a lot of hard work in the run up with regular training camps in Dublin and fitness sessions at the University of Ulster in Jordanstown. It will be extremely tough competition in Poland with the world-class standard of the international sailors but it will be a fantastic learning experience, an amazing opportunity. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me get this far and the great support I've had from the RYA Academy."
