The Guest of Honour was former pupil Miss Samantha McCombe. Samantha is the Librarian of the Linen Hall Library. Founded in 1788, the Linen Hall is the oldest library in Belfast and the last subscribing library in Ireland, with a current membership of two and a half thousand. Appointed in 2015, Samantha is the first woman to hold this post. As a pupil at school Samantha studied A Levels in History, Politics and English Literature, the subject she continued to study at degree level at Glasgow before returning to Queen’s University Belfast to complete her Masters in Information Management. Samantha’s A Level subjects are reflected in her career path to date working first in university libraries, followed by the Northern Ireland Assembly library, the Bar Library and senior manager within the Global Library Service with international law firm Allen and Overy before taking up her current role.
