Environmental Youth Speak Competition

Congratulations to Year 9 pupils Cameron Hutchison, Ross Johnston and Alexandra Stafford who competed in this event. Special congratulations to Alexandra who was placed first and has qualified to compete in the NI Finals at Mossley Mill on 8 March.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Council welcomed local schools to Antrim Civic Centre on 10 February to have their say on environmental matters in the local heats of Environmental Youth Speak. The speaking competition, which has been running for over 15 years, offers local children the opportunity to stand up and air their views on environmental issues such as reducing waste at a local and global level. Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey BC, Councillor Thomas Hogg, was there to announce the winners. He commented, “The standard of presentations in the Antrim and Newtownabbey heat was exceptionally high and judges had an extremely difficult task in selecting a winner from both the junior and senior categories to go forward and represent the Borough in the NI Finals next month. I would like to wish our senior winner, Alexandra Stafford from Belfast High School, the best of luck in the grand final and also congratulate all the local contenders for their superb entries.”
